Understanding Gear Enhancement
Enhancing your equipment is one of the most impactful ways to increase your character's power level in Crusaders of Light. Each piece of gear can be upgraded through a series of enhancement levels, each adding a percentage increase to its base stats. However, the enhancement system carries risk — higher enhancement levels have a chance to fail, and failed attempts can degrade your gear if you're not careful.
How the Enhancement System Works
To enhance gear, you'll need Enhancement Stones, which come in several tiers (Basic, Refined, and Radiant). The process is straightforward:
- Open the Enhancement menu from your inventory or a Blacksmith NPC.
- Select the gear piece you want to upgrade.
- Choose the appropriate Enhancement Stone tier for your gear's current level.
- Confirm the enhancement attempt.
Enhancement levels are denoted as +1 through +15, with each tier beyond +7 introducing increased failure risk.
Enhancement Success Rates & Safe Thresholds
Understanding where the risk spikes is critical to managing your resources efficiently:
| Enhancement Level | Approx. Success Rate | Failure Penalty |
|---|---|---|
| +1 to +5 | ~100% | None |
| +6 to +7 | ~90% | No degradation |
| +8 to +10 | ~70–80% | Drops to previous level |
| +11 to +12 | ~50–60% | Drops by 2 levels |
| +13 to +15 | ~30–40% | Drops by 2 levels |
Note: These rates are approximate based on community testing and may vary slightly by gear type or active events.
Using Protection Scrolls
Protection Scrolls are consumable items that prevent gear from degrading on a failed enhancement attempt. They are absolutely worth using at +10 and beyond, where both failure rates and degradation penalties become painful. You can obtain Protection Scrolls from:
- Weekly dungeon reward chests
- The in-game merchant shop (via Guild Tokens)
- Limited-time seasonal events
Do not attempt +12 or higher without a Protection Scroll unless you have a large stock of Enhancement Stones to absorb the setback.
Crafting Gear vs. Dropping Gear
For many slots, crafted gear provides a solid alternative to dungeon drops — especially for players who can't run endgame content regularly. Here's when each approach makes sense:
- Craft gear: When you need a specific stat combination, when dungeon drops are too RNG-dependent, or when you have surplus crafting materials.
- Pursue dungeon drops: For best-in-slot (BiS) pieces with unique or set bonuses that crafted gear can't replicate.
Crafting Basics
The crafting system requires Blueprints (dropped from bosses or purchased) and raw Crafting Materials gathered from the world or salvaged from unwanted gear. Key tips:
- Always salvage gear you don't need — even low-quality items yield useful materials.
- Check the Crafting Station daily for discounted recipes during events.
- Prioritize crafting accessories (rings, necklaces) as they are rarely dropped with ideal stats.
Resource Management Tips
- Don't enhance every piece of gear — focus on your main equipped items, not alternates.
- Push gear to +7 freely (near-zero risk), then slow down and save scrolls for +10 attempts.
- Join a Guild to access Guild Shop discounts on Enhancement Stones.
- Complete daily quests consistently — they are the most reliable source of Basic Enhancement Stones.
